Golfing Programs
The golfing programs at La Rinconada provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy a little friendly competition and get to meet other Members.
WOMEN’S GOLF CLUB The Women’s Golf Club is the choice for playing 18 holes with other women during the week. The regular play day is on Tuesday mornings throughout the year. In addition to playing with the Members, there are monthly opportunities to bring a guest. Major tournaments include a Handicap, Championship, Invitational and Member-Member Tournament. In order to qualify for membership, a USGA Handicap index which translates to a 36 or less course handicap based on the red tee rating at La Rinconada Country Club is required. Membership in the Women’s Golf Association of Northern California (WGANC) is required. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Women’s Golf Club, please contact the Club Captain, Margie Becker.
WOMEN’S NINE-HOLE GOLF GROUP (9ER’S) Any female Member of La Rinconada Country Club is welcome to join the 9ers. Even though it is only 9 holes, the game is played legitimately with handicaps and the proper rules and courtesies required in golf. The regular play day is on Thursday mornings throughout the year. The group consists of beginners, intermediates and advanced golfers. It provides a friendly atmosphere in which to learn to be comfortable with the techniques and frustrations of the game. There are tournaments, team play competitions, exchange with other 9-hole groups, and guest days. If you are interested in becoming a member of the 9er’s, please contact the Club Captain, Margaret Ong.
MEN’S CLUB The Men’s Club sponsors a year-long Tournament of Champions (TOC) competition. TOC events are open to all male Certificated members and male spouses who have valid NCGA handicaps. The Wildcat Invitational is a three day member-guest event that provides lots of action and some memorable golf. In the Club Championship match play event, the low 16 handicap entrants play at scratch, while the other flights are handicapped. The Member-Member Tournament allows you to partner with an old friend and meet many new ones. Several of the stroke play tournaments provide the opportunity to qualify to represent La Rinconada in NCGA events. The last event of the year is the TOC Finals, where the highest point scorers for the year and winners of individual tournaments qualify to play.
SENIORS Male Certificated members and male spouses over fifty years of age are eligible to play in the La Rinconada Seniors. The Seniors play weekly events from mid-April through mid-October, typically on Thursday afternoons. Most events are exchange matches with other clubs in the area. One week we will visit clubs such as Los Altos, Almaden, Sharon Heights, Peninsula, Silver Creek, Bayonet, etc. Another week we will host their members at our club. Other events are just with La Rinconada members, such as match play or outings to courses such as Poppy Hills, Eagle Ridge and San Juan Oaks. Most events consist of lunch, 18 holes of golf, dinner and awards. The typical cost for an event is around $60. In addition, there are annual dues of $70 that cover the costs of three member-only events. The Seniors provide an opportunity to play a little competitive golf, make some new friends, and play some great golf courses. If you are interested in joining, or would like some more information, please contact Seniors President Jeff Balfus.
JUNIORS La Rinconada Country Club is a member of the Bay Cities Junior Golf League and also sponsors a Junior Golf Program during the summer. Members’ children and grandchildren, ages 5 and up, are encouraged to participate in the Junior Golf Program.
OTHER TOURNAMENTS A number of Holiday and special event tournaments are scheduled throughout the year. They provide an opportunity for men, women and couples to compete with other club members, meet new friends, and swap stories during the cocktails and dinner that typically follow the event. Consult the Club calendar to sign up for these events. |
